Who's Playing TMI
MAURICE Ashley made history when in 1999, he became the first and only African-American to attain the coveted title of International Grand Master of Chess.
In 2003, Ashley saw a prototype of the new TMI Chess System and immediately embraced it as the “best chess set he’d seen” and predicted a “shocking” impact on the chess world. He asked to take the prototype to the epic Man vs Machine match he was hosting on ESPN with then world champion Grandmaster Gary Kasparov, who when he saw TMI’s rotating chess board, proclaimed it “the future of chess.”
Maurice introduced TMI to the lofty world of grandmaster-level chess, bringing valuable input that was incorporated into what is being called the world’s unltimate chess equipment.
At the HB Global Chess challenge held in Minneapolis in May 2005, host Maurice Ashley awarded a new TMI system to the winner, Grandmaster Zviad Izoria of Georgia, Russia. The HB Challenge also saw Ashley playing Josh Waitzkin of “Searching for Bobby Fischer” on a TMI Board.
